Google Calendar

I was able to ditch notebooks, to-do lists, bank statements, and other paper products without much hesitation.  I try my best to use as little paper as possible, but I will admit that my paper planner/calendar was hard for me to part with.  When I learned about the cool features within Google Calendar I was happy to properly recycle it!

You can create an unlimited amount of sub-calendars within your GAFE account.  Think of all the possibilities:

  • Homework
  • Lesson Plans
  • Project Turn in Dates
  • Schoolwide days off
  • Parent Conferences
  • Department Calendar with Shared Google Doc Notes

Sharing your calendar with a group is easy!  Select which calendar you would like to share by clicking on the arrow off to the right of the title and selecting “Share this Calendar”

From there you will see this option under the “Share this Calendar” tab.  If you want to share your calendar with the Public or within the Cupertino Union School District you have two levels of sharing:

  • See Only Free/Busy
    • Others cannot see the specific details of your events, but they can see blocks of time labeled as “free” or “busy”
  • See All Event Detail
    • Anyone can see the details of your events, but are unable to see events you mark as “Private”
    • Great for teachers who are posting a calendar to a Google Site Website.

You can invite specific people to your calendar. where you will have four levels of sharing to choose from:

  • See Only Free/Busy.
    • Same as above!
  • See All Event Detail
    • Same as above!
  • Make Changes to Event
    • Invited people can see the details of your events, even those marked “Private.”
    • Great options for a Department or Grade Level to create events and store Google Doc notes all in one place!
    • You cannot grant someone outside the domain this access to your PRIMARY calendar!  This can be granted to any subcalendar.
  • Make Changes AND Manage Sharing
    • Invited people can see the details of your events, even those marked “Private.”  Those invited can also add more people to your events.
    • You cannot grant someone outside the domain this access to your PRIMARY calendar!  This can be granted to any subcalendar.

Check out these awesome features available under the “Event Details” of any Calendar event.
