Who Wants More Time?

Okay I cannot make more hours in a day happen, but I can give you this awesome time saving tip.  Are you ready?

Step 1: Get out your iPad/iPhone

Step 2: Open the Google Drive App

Step 3: Open a brand new Doc

Step 4: No need to type anything!  You can press the microphone – next to the space bar – and begin to record your voice.

Think about the time you will save by not having to type things like report card comments, descriptive feedback to students, directions for the days activities, rubrics, etc.  Once you have whatever you want written you can then copy and paste it into whatever platform you need it in.  One more thing, you will need to say your punctuation.

Do not forget about Siri, she/he/it can be your best friend!  Now that may sound like the movie description to Her, but just go with me on this.  Siri works on iPad 3 or higher, and iPhone 4S or higher.  Make sure Siri is enabled Settings > General > Siri.  Here are a few things Siri can do for you from your iPad

  • Send and read your emails
  • Create a calendar event
  • Remind you of your next staff meeting
  • Launch an app
  • Set reminders
  • Set an alarm
  • Set a timer
  • Send an iMessage
  • Find information on the web
  • Get directions
  • And my favorite – “Play Justin Timberlake”

Accessing Archived Email

As many of you have realized, CUSD email only keeps the last 3 months of email active in your inbox, which can be frustrating when trying to track down a conversation from several months ago.  However, do not fear, your older email is still in the system.  You can search for your email on our archive site: https://archive.cusdk8.org/  You log in with your username.  For example: smith_john Then use the same password you use for your email and you will see all of your email.  You can do a search – I would advise doing an Advanced Search to narrow down the email you are searching for. Linked are instructions step- by- step.

Emailing Parents from Aeries

From Aeries.net you can email a specific group of parents.  Currently this function is only accessible to those who teach Middle School or teach at a school where your staff is piloting the Elementary School Grade book.

Once you are logged into Aeries.net you can see on the left column a tab named “Teacher Misc” click on that then “Send Email.”  When you click on “Send Email” you should see a new screen pop up with your email in the “From” row.

Click on “Add Recipients” and you will have this screen below pop open.  Make sure you have “Contacts” checked off because that is where the majority of your parent emails are located.

Aeries Email

I’ve blurred out the box where the parent emails will be listed.  Click “Add all” then “Ok” and all of your parent emails will be populated into the “To” row of the email.

Type away!

CUSD Email on Your iOS Device

It is easy to sync your iPhone or iPad with your @cusdk8.org email address.  I’ve created a Blendspace (formerly known as Educanvas) to guide you through these 5 easy steps.

Blendspace is a website that does require an account, but you can easily link it with your CUSD google account.  With this tool you can create easy step by step lessons – great for teachers wanting to try a flipped classroom.  You can embed pictures, videos, text and even quizzes.

Check out this one on the US Constitution.  Or watch this YouTube on how to get started.
